Anticon

It seems as if the Anticon label has momentarily given up on rapping, and has instead decided to release more indie rock and instrumental beat type stuff. Their next three releases are all on the instrumental tip.

First up is DJ Mayonnaise with Still Alive, which will be released on July 17th. The title is fitting as Mayonnaise hasn't released an album since 1999's 55 Stories.

Next on the slate is Odd Nosdam's Level Live Wires, which will be released on August 28th. Odd Nosdam continues to experiment with the dark cut and paste sounds that he has explored on past projects, as well as continuing to add more live instrumentation and vocalists. Vocalists include Yoni Wolf from Why?, Tunde Adebimpe from TV On The Radio, Chris Adams from Hood & Bracken.

In September, Anticon will release Telephone Jim Jesus's second album Anywhere Out of the Everything. The Restiform Bodies' producer's album is mostly instrumental with a few vocal contributions from Anticon cohorts Pedestrian and Yoni Wolf.

DJ Mayonnaise "Easily Distracted"
Odd Nosdam "Fat Hooks"
Telephone Jim Jesus "A Mouth of Fingers"

Wu-Tang & Mr. Oizo

I highly recommend checking out this mixtape thatSpliff Huxtable recently posted. It blends some Wu verses with Mr. Oizo beats. Oizo's beats are surprisingly hard, and usually complement the Wu members very well. Mixed by Biz from Soul For Hire.

We Recommend...

-Stereogum presents...OKX: A Tribute To OK Computer
Stereogum got a bunch of indie dudes and ladies to contribute covers of songs from the most important rock record of the late nineties. Includes John Vanderslice, My Brightest Diamond, Marissa Nadler, Cold War Dudes and others.

-Yewknee Summer Mix Series
It's summer and you need something to listen to. Let these contributors do the work for you with downloadable mixes. Keep checking this one, as more mixes are added as the summer goes on.

-Clipse vs. Cat Power at The Hood Internet
I'm not a fan of most indie/rap mashups that pop up all over the net nowadays, but the dudes at the Hood Internet are fairly consistent. It helps when you're a fan of both artists being mixed, which in this case I am.

-Top 20 Wu-Tang videos at Urb
Sure, you could buy the Legend of the Wu-Tang dvd, but the 17 videos featured on it only cover group work. Urb brings the ultimate best of the Wu, including the solo releases. Plus, it's free.

A note: We Recommend is meant to replace the Daily Variety feature that I've run in the past. Daily Variety only works as a title when it is actually featured daily, which it hasn't been in many months.

Note: the original link has been removed, but you can still check it out for free on iTunes by following the above link.

UGK & Outkast "International Players Anthem" (Ross Hogg Telephone Love remix)
I love pretty much everything Ross Hogg touches. This remix is no exception. Check out Ross's latest mixtape at his myspace page.

Mr. Dibbs & Murs "The MF You Love To Hate"
Dibbs and Murs take on an Ice Cube classic, making it rock a little harder.

Gym Class Heroes and Lil Wayne "Viva La White Girl" remix
Wayne is on so many tracks nowadays that it'd be possible for someone to blog nothing but new Wayne songs.
